Archie passed away on what is now known as the worst Australia day ever. He was only three.

His passing was sudden and unexpected. I was holding off his 100th post because it was Puppy Day on the 21st but on Friday night he seemed to have a bad tummy ache, Archie did sometimes get tummy aches, and the next morning he was still bad so I thought I’d put off the post till he got better so it wasn’t a ‘he’s really sick’ post but a happier ‘he’s better now!’ post. He got worse until he couldn’t use his back legs, we didn’t know what was happening.

Mum called the vet when she, dad & Vickie came home from the city that night. He said it sounded like a slip-disc and we all breathed a sigh of relief (Amy and I thought he was going to die any second). He was in pain sometimes then seemed to settle.

I was happy (after being dismayed) he was at the vet where they were taking care of him. Still worried, I got scared every day we rung the vet. He was getting better, raising his head. Then we were told he had some internal bleeding and the next day he died. What exactly killed him, I don’t know, but he went peacefully, he was sitting there, started to lower his head then lay and passed away. We were all thrown into grief and I couldn’t believe it.

It’s started sinking in now but sorrow still clings to the household and will for some time. I miss him terribly and wish he was here.

But I don’t want to leave what has turned out to be a great collection of memories like this. Archie’s memory will not always be cloaked in grief so neither should this blog. I’m so happy we have these memories and that we got to have him at all because he was perfect. There are a few memories to add to complete this collection; over the next week or month we will share them here.

It was hard to tell this news, so the posts will happen as we feel up to doing them.

What Archie got for Chrsitmas

Archie was gifted many things this year, mostly from Janet (his carer when we're away).

First Amy and I gave him a haircut as the salon cancelled and we didn't want him to overheat. I think we did really well and he looks scruffy but adorable...others thought he looked funny. It's been a couple of weeks and I think everyone thinks he looks good now, whether that's because he's grown out a bit or they're used to him, who knows.

Janet gave us this awesome super absorbent towel! More a gift for us than Archie (bath time isn't his favourite) but it benefits him.

A pedometer! He has worn it once and I'm sure we'll get it out for fun every now and again.

Lastly,on christmas day Janet bought Archie some kind of liver sausage wrapped up for him to open.
A very lucky puppy, indeed!

Dear People,

I had such a great christmas! My people left and I missed them but Janet came to see me and gave me a presents. Then my 8 favourite people came home and I danced around for them. They like that.

I have lots of goals this year Kathryn says. I'm not sure what she means but she says I'll enjoy learning more tricks.

They took down the big glitter thing also, Kathryn says this means the end of Christmas. Now it is another year and I will soon have been with my family for 4 years.

He's 3 years old now (that's 21 in dog years) but still clinging to the last strands of puppy rottenness and misbehavior. He may grow out (or be trained out) of that, but somehow I don't think his goofy doofus-ness will ever fade, nor would we ever want it to.

Archie got a long awaited haircut this week. We took him to a new place which sounded like doggy heaven, fed treats and played with, and the reports show he had a good time and the result was satisfactory.

Archie and the Ugly Toy

While investigating a box of projects, we found an old frog toy of Archie's and the squeaker and legs of another. Christopher made a temporary toy for Archie and Archie went mad, he loved it. The little guy tuckered himself out that night playing with it and taking it apart.

We decided he could keep it until a proper one was made and then one night we wondered what Archie was eating. Turns out it he had torn a hole in the sock and chewed through the squeaker.

He still likes it, even without the squeaker.

While we were customising some t-shirts for us girls to run the city-bay in, we tried to test a transfer first.
We got an old t-shirt and didn't end up using it (our test transfers were too old), so we dressed Archie up in it. He didn't mind at all, it was just like having his coat on.
The photos are dark because they were taken inside, but not too dark because of Amy's awesome 50mm.

Dear people,
I realised the other day how many signs I've learnt over the years with my family. Sometimes they are very predictable.

signs that it's outside time (the best sort of time):
someone has the black, clicky thing out,
someone has put things on their feet,
the washing basket is out,
anyone says outside.

signs that is food time (the best sort of time also):
someone comes outside around dinner or breakfast time,
someone comes out and picks parsley,
the sound of my bowl.

signs it's cuddle time:
someone calls my name non-stop,
someone squats down.

signs it's time for a walk:
mum gets my harness,
someone else gets my harness,
people put special things on their feet really early in the morning.

So many signs, I can read them like a map.

Dear people,

My people got a 'Fuji Instant Camera' the other week, not sure what it is but it makes them happy.
I think the pictures they took looked pretty but they wouldn't let me lick them, what's the point of something I can't lick?

I was confused the last couple of weeks, other people starting taking me to bed instead of Christopher. At first I was suspicious (my birthday is coming up) but it turned out there was nothing to worry about.

A few days ago I went to the forest with my people, so much fun! We walked and ran and ate yummy things.

Yesterday I got a super sore ear, but my people looked after me and I'm fine now!

The Remarkable Forest

We had morning tea in the nursery this past Wednesday. After we had explored a bit and took some family portraits, it was threatening to rain. So, we took a short trip to see the King Tree then headed to Melrose where we had lunch.
It's a beautiful town, built beside Mt. Remarkable (which is huge!). We got some information about the track to the top (like that Archie can't come) and went for a walk up to the first check point, the only place Archie can go.
It was a lovely day...

Archie walked into the shallow part of a little river and got very dirty. We've been told that because of the trees, the muck in the water is like dye.

After we got home, Amy and I bathed him...and Amy had to shampoo his legs four times.

On Wednesday we walked a 6km return track. It was so beautiful and lots of fun but also hard work.
Archie loved it! although he didn't understand why we weren't sharing more of our tea and sandwiches with him.

We went down to the forest so Amy could do a photoshot with Vickie.

Of course we took Archie, and I was so surprised at how well he behaved! On the way down I held him, so he could look out the window, and he didn't really try to walk backwards and forwards like normal.

He hardly pulled on the leash, he'd stop and wait when they stopped to take photos, and he stayed on the path most of the time; it was so easy to get him to come back onto the path when he wondered.

On the way back, he was so tried, he just lay on mum's lap. I think he had a lot of fun there!

Dear People,

I've had a very interesting week! Now I will tell you about it.

On Saturday lots of people appeared for something called the folk fair. I had fun barking at them and running around. On Sunday Amy and Kathryn took me out to the fair, I was very excited but also a little scared so Amy held me. In her arms I could see all the people really well. I was really shaky but I got use to all the people after a little bit.
I meet another dog called Oliver, he was very friendly and being carried, too! I few people patted me, at first I was freaked out but then I liked it.
It was fun!

It has been the best weather lately, cold and sunny.

I have been hunting mice and lizards. I caught a few mice but my pack always took them away from me, I think it's because they were jealous of how good a hunter I am.

They tell me they don't want me to try to eat them because they could give me sickness; jealousy.

Such a lovely week other than Tuesday when my ear got sore. So sore, Kathryn sprayed some stuff in my ear and it helped; I was running around the next day!

This was also good, we went for a walk and then at home I ran around a lot!

Sticky seeds, hot weather and wooden floor boards

It seems to have been a warm, sometimes very hot, February.
The sticky seeds that live in our backyard have come back and Amy and I have been very good at brushing Archie almost everyday. Still, though, every grooming session he begins covered in seeds!
And the poor baby doesn't like getting his front paws brushed.

I have started to read a dog training book and am still determined to have a well trained dog by the end of the year. Archie is getting really good at 'wait' (the word we use instead of stay) and we don't really have to hold him back much.
He must sit and wait before he comes inside and before he has food. He is so good.

Dad took up the broken tiles in one of our halls and for a little while, till Dad put new flooring down, the old wooden boards were exposed. They looked lovely. Bath mats were put down to make it safer to walk across. Archie loved laying on the fluffy ones.

When it's hot we squirt water on Archie's head to make him cooler.

Puppy Day

Last Thursday(the 21st) marked a year to the day we got our puppy.
I can't believe it's been a whole year!
Archie hasn't been trained in much, he's pretty good at sitting and waiting, but this year I am determined to train him. He's part poodle, so he should like it and by Christmas he will be a very well behaved dog.

Dear people,

I was left alone for the longest time!
All my people went away for five days and a nice lady looked after me.
I did normal stuff; chased lizards, ate, slept and had fun.
When my people came back I was so excited! I got lots of cuddles then run away a whole bunch!

I had a bath yesterday and today I went down to the oval with all my people who are training for the city-to-bay fun run. When we got back they played with me and in the afternoon I slept.

“Mwahaha, soon the world will be mine!” He laughed. Originally he had planned to make the world cream to reflect the colour of his beauty but for some reason pink was easier to do, like the world longed to be pink.

It mattered little to him (he would have his own patch of secret land that would remain normal) but he knew his arch nemesis, Mr Green, would take it hard, like a blow to his chest. His favourite colour was green and he ran around saving trees and such with the occasional human rescue thrown in.

With that pesky Rottweiler out of the way, Mr Pink could get on with the busy task of world dominion.

The other day I needed Archie to play my villain for PPT and it was difficult to get a picture before he got distracted by treats of tried to eat the moustache but he was such a good boy over all.

Well, this is the day we have decided to celebrate it. It's around the time he was born but we don't know the exact date.
So, he's not a puppy anymore but is still so cute.

We took Archie for his first trip to the Wirabarra Forest on Wednesday and even though it was hotter then we wanted, we all had a good time and Archie tired himself out.
When we got back to town, we picked up our lunch but Archie didn't would to wait so Vickie walked him most of the way. Less then a block before the house he just stopped and looked at her, so he was carried the rest of the way then got a meaty snack.

We've had a lot of rain lately, enough to make the rocky river flow. We didn't go down when it was really full but we went down to the part that runs through our town on the 28th then again on the 29th.
It's so pretty and peaceful. Archie liked the water, he is a poodle after all.
So the first time it was just us girls then the second time we took Mum.

Archie wanted to get in the water but we didn't let him because we weren't sure if we should.

When we come home everyone asked why we didn't let Archie in the water, so we decided to go back on his next walk day.

The day was warm and windy but down at the river is was pleasant and the water was cold. The river was slightly lower.

He loved getting into the water!

When he would get in any more we thought maybe he just wanted to explore.

But when we got closer we saw he was shivering a lot.
We think it's because he was very wet and the water was cold and the air cool. Only our feet got wet so we were fair.
Amy picked him up and carried him, he really enjoyed that!

I think he really enjoyed himself, us girls all did!

Baking biscuits...

Vickie baked some doggy biscuits for Archie yesterday and today he got to try them.

We have a bone biscuit cutter

She put some sesame seeds on them.

They looked good and really cute in the bone shape

He seemed pretty excited to try them...

He loved them!

He seemed satisfied after his three biscuits...

As Amy put it so well.
Archie went to the vet around 10am yesterday and came home at around 5:30pm.
Why was he at the vet?
To be desexed. He came home almost asleep and with not much control of his body and with a little shaved patch on his leg. Even though I knew he'd be alright, I was really worried seeing him like that. As the night went on he began to wake up more and regain some movement. He'd looked up at you and wag the tip of his tail.

Amy stayed up late to watch Dance and then couldn't sleep so she was up with him. He had a wheatbag to keep him warm, too. She said he stood up in the night.

This morning he got up to eat a little breakfast and he's went outside a few times today but has slept a lot.
So, he's going back to normal but he is slow and a little wobbly at the moment.

"The pointing game", it's name is fairly self-explanatory, you point into some grass and Archie quite throws himself onto that spot, probably thinking that we're helping him find lizards and other fun things to chase

Time to blog about the cutest dog ever, Archie!
I was out taking photos of a book and he came under the chair to see what I was up to. I whistled and he tilted his head, so cute!

Archie had to stay inside for a while the other day while Dad and Christopher chopped wood and he really wanted to go back out!

Archie licked and sniffed the present I was taking photos of, he even tried to eat the flower.

Archie is always on the look out and ready to be called into action at anytime...

One Wednesday morning Archie spots a messager boy from Them. He thanks the messager and read the letter, they want him to go under-cover and find out what the Others are up to.

He goes investigating right away and find some clues, he follows them quick, smart.

They lead him to a farm where he poses as a lamb and follows the suspicious farmhand until he finds her to be another agent.

They share information then they both continue with their case.

He disguises himself and listens on the streets, knowing that his disguise is perfect. He over hears someone he shouldn’t have leaves for another city, following this person.

In a park Ratusbagus listens to music and blends in, all the while watching in exchange between the persona and another. He follows this new person to a fancy-pantsy office building but can’t get in.

He thought of another perfect disguise, this one was so brilliant he almost surprised himself.

With a second agent, they got into the building pretending to be super heroes. They find him and more clues that needed to be unravelled. They went outside to talk things over.

With his brilliant mind, Ratusbagus solved the case, he know what to do and they were off!

Disguising themselves as movie stars…

They got invited to go the opening night the Others were targeting.

On the red carpet the Others attacked the leading actors but Ratusbagus was there and, using his incredible intellect, out smarted them and saved everyone.

After a long Day, Archie rests, knowing his done it again.

I posted this because, other then it just being fun, I wanted to show all the things Archie’s been.

Haven't posted for awhile so I thought I'd hop on and share some cute photos!
Make sure to look all the way to the end because that's where he's drinking tea.

Us four girls took Archie for a walk to a little pine forest in our town on good Friday. He enjoyed it of course, he just loves walks.

He looks like he's laughing :)

Archie the wonder dog loses tooth

A few days ago, some time at night, I was sitting with Archie when I noticed, much to my shock and horror, that his toy pickachu had blood on it's tail. After mum examined him, we found out that he had lost a tooth :O
But, according to reliable sources, it's perfectly normal for a puppy his age and will be replaced with a adult tooth

Archie got his first haircut yesterday and at first I couldn't believe it was Archie but the way he acts gives him away. He's still cute but it takes some getting uses to!
Also, he went to the vet today and got some drops for his ear.

On Wednesday Archie got another bite...or something. It's still bothering him, so we think there might be something in there. Poor baby, it's worse then last time. He's going to the vet on Wednesday.

Archie has a small milo soccer ball, he loves to chase it

it's getting kind of old & worn (it's missing a panel), but that just gives him a better grip :)

He got some new toys today, including a ball......I'm sure there will be photos in due course :)

On Thursday Archie ran to the backdoor, crying loudly. We let him inside; he shook his head lots, crying. His ear was sore and he wasn't happy. Christopher and Mum calmed him. Mum worked out that it was a bite and gave him things for it. He was very tried the rest of the day and his ear is much better now. It was so scary at first, because we didn't know what was wrong. Poor little guy.

Archie goes fishing

OK, so the last few weeks have been really hot here and Archie wasn't doing so good while the nights were hot but when the nights got cooler and Archie spent more time outside behind the couch, where it's cool, he started to get back to normal.
Haven't posted for a little while so it's time for some photos!

First some photos from a windy day, I think these were taken before the heat wave and by Amy;

Then one evening while we were watering the peach tree, Archie decided to play in the water and get all muddy;

When he runs around the yard his fur picks up lots of seeds;

Lastly, he like to play in the pot, under the peach, that we use to water the tree. He moves the water with his paw and tries to catch little bits;

Isn't he cute?

getting dirty can only mean one thing....a bath!

Archie had some fun getting dirty in the garden last night;

but it came at a slight cost to the plants

Then he did some other exploring. At one stage he found an ant and kept trying to pick it up..needless to say it wasn't a complete success.

By the end of it all, he was pretty filthy, so he got a bath! it turns out he's all fur.

Oh, and Archie got a new collar. the other one was actually a cat collar, but the clip kept undoing so he got a proper dog collar.
